Antique Portrait Miniature of Dapper Man by P.G. Dodd
  • Finely painted portrait miniature of a distinguished gent of particularly fine quality painting. Good strong colors and beautiful condition. The painting bears the label to the reverse, “P.G.Dodd, Goldsmith, Jeweller and Miniature Painter, 25, Leadenhall St. London”. Framed in what appears to be the original papier maché frame, with acorn hanging loop with original glass. The framed miniature measures 5 ½” x 4 7/8”. Sight size is 3 ½” x 2 7/8”. The condition is extremely good for both portrait and frame. I have located information about P.G. Dodd & Sons Ltd which seems to have existed from the mid-19th century until at least the end of the 1st quarter of the 20th century. Most information I find revolves around silver pieces done by the company of Dodd and sons although I did fine a marvelous necklace done by the firm during the last years of the 19th century when they were at a different location. I cannot, unfortunately, find the dates that Dodd worked alone or that the firm worked at the Leadenhall location. Circa mid-19th century.
