Late 18th Century Pastel Portrait of a Lady in a Bonnet
  • This lovely pastel portrait is in excellent condition. It features a lady wearing a white lowcut dress with empire waist and covered with sheer topper that gathers at her neck and drapes below her bust. Over this topper she wears a rose-colored shawl and a white lace bonnet tied by a wide pale blue satin ribbon. She resides in a federal period gilt frame with a heavy cove edged by carved wood rope. The frame may have had some restoration. The frame has museum glass and measures 17 1/2" X 14 3/4". Sight size is 13-1/2" x 11-1/2". Purportedly found in Connecticut, but may be either American or English. Circa 1790.
