This interesting pair of watercolor portrait miniatures are of a young woman and young man in matching lemon gold frames. The attractive young lady holds a small bouquet of flowers and wears a beautiful dress as she sits in a painted char with ringlet curls and comb in her hair. The gentleman is well-dressed but looks sad and preoccupied as he stares right through us. Could they have been lovers long ago? On the lady’s reverse side is signed “1834 - Grandmother Hay. Age - 16. Ann Stanbury”. The reverse side of him simply states “Grandmother's friend. Mr. Thompson”.
The portraits are early 19th century. The sight size 2 3/4" x 3 3/4". Both are in very good condition and there is damage to Grandmother Hay’s frame as shown in the photographs.
