This charming young girl with flowers is attributed to Charles Samuel Hervé II. The girl has an interesting hairstyle: bobbed short in the back but the sides long enough to be pulled tight with a barrette and curled under the barrette and over the ears. The fact that her dress is calf-length, short enough to show her ankle-length underpants below and her hair is curled show us that this is a young girl instead of a boy—who wore dresses until about the age of 12 in this time period. Housed in a possibly original, period rosewood veneered cushioned frame measuring 9 1/4" x 11 7/8", sight size is 6 1/2" x 8 12/4". Circa 1825. From a Houston area collection.
