Elegant portrait miniature of siblings circa 1815. Painted in watercolor and gouache on vellum, it is unsigned. Housed in a period figured cherry frame. sight 4" x 3-1/2", framed 8-1/4" x 6-7/8". The frame’s repairs and cracks add to the charm of this lovely triple profile. It is unclear from Dr. Ball’s notation whether the profile was already housed in this frame when he acquired it, but he does note that the frame was “from Laurel Hill Plantation (Natchez area), estate of Butler and Mercier families; frame circa 1810-1820, probably originally owned by Gen. …. Butler of New Orleans, Chief of Staff to Gov. C. C. Claiburn.”
