18th c. Reverse Painted on Glass Lady Playing Zither
Unusually early folk art painting in great condition for such a fragile type of art. Paint on the back of glass sticks and flakes so easily that one seldom finds this a piece this old in such good condition. A piece of period woven fabric has been between the glass and the wood back, likely since it was painted and framed. We dusted the fabric very lightly with a soft artist brush and laid a piece of mylar between the fabric and wood back to help preserve its condition. Continental School, circa 1760.
