This is a great small leather traveling case with brass tack decoration. The inside is like with wallpaper that has seldom seen the light of day so is still vibrant. The leather is a beautiful camel color and the top has mottled beautifully with age. There is an iron lock and latch with a brass flap over the keyhole that is stamped “PATENT”. The box is unlocked and there is no key. The hinges are on the outside of the box and covered with leather. They are probably brass but I can’t tell for sure. The outside edges of box have tooled beading to the leather that has worn almost smooth. The box is lined with early handblocked wallpaper in grey, brown and yellow-orange. This little trunk measures 8 x 5 deep x 4 tall not including handle. It is in very good condition with some moisture staining on leather in front panel and expected leather wear. Early 19th century.
