A very unusual, folky embroidered picture of a large house behind a picket fence. The upper left has a woman in white with two children in blue. The lower right has a woman in blue with two children in white. The sampler utilizes many types of stitches to depict texture in this small 11” x 8” picture. Amazingly, the artwork is on three pieces of silk tamy cloth that have been stitched together to create a larger background. The vertical seams run right up the picture but are artfully camouflaged by the stitches used for the design. The detail in this circa 1800 sampler will draw your attention over and over again.
